Government to Import Sugar, Zulkifli Hasan: We Don’t Have Sugar

IDXChannel - Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas) again talked about the plan to import 991,000 tons of sugar in 2023.

According to Zulhas, this was done because the country\'s sugar needs were quite high. "Well that (sugar) we don\'t have.So we have to import. This is not me who wants it, because the goods are not there, if the goods are there, what do you do (import)," he said.

Zulhas said that currently the Ministry of Industry holds a recommendation for approval of sugar imports. In the meantime, his side as a supporter, and carrying out orders.

Trade Minister Zulhas also ensured that the condition of sugar in the country is not in a state of surplus. He said that the need for sugar consumption and the need for industrial sugar are still lacking, so sugar imports must also be carried out to meet the needs of domestic consumption.

"Which surplus, who said? Yes, if it is surplus, why do we import it? Sugar is a lack of 1 million tons (that\'s the one to eat). The sugar industry we don\'t have. We need 5 million tons. The industry uses sugar, and the drinks - the drinks, there\'s the sugar," Zulhas continued.
